NSS Scandal: Account who masterminded ghost names fraud arrested by NIB

Yaw Danso, who serves as an accountant with the National Service Authority (NSA), has been apprehended by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for his suspected role in the controversial ghost names payroll fraud. Responsible for managing disbursements, Danso has become a focal point in the probe into this financial misconduct.

This development follows closely on the detention of Kwaku Ohene Gyan, the NSA’s former Deputy Director of Operations, while efforts continue to locate Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director, who remains at large.

Authorities are intensifying their search as the investigation unfolds.

Sources indicate that the ghost names scandal has inflicted substantial financial losses on the state, prompting scrutiny of several senior officials within the NSA. Danso’s arrest is part of the government’s wider anti-corruption drive, which has also ensnared figures like Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), linked to the $2 million Sky Train case.

Currently, Yaw Danso is held at the NIB headquarters, where he is being interrogated to determine the full extent of his involvement in the payroll fraud and to help authorities dismantle the complex network behind the irregularities.
