The quiet town of Salaga in the Savannah Region was cast into mourning on Monday following the passing of Hajia Mariam, mother of former Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson.
Her death, described as peaceful by family sources, came as a shock to many who knew her as a gentle and respected figure in the community.
She was laid to rest shortly after, in accordance with Islamic rites, during a solemn ceremony attended by relatives, neighbors, and community elders.
Residents described her as a devoted mother and a calm, disciplined woman whose presence touched countless lives.
Islamic prayers will be held tomorrow, with a large turnout expected. Friends, political associates, religious leaders, and sympathizers from across the country are preparing to join the family to honor her memory.
For Hawa Koomson, the loss is deeply personal. Those close to her say she has been devastated, and many Ghanaians have expressed heartfelt sympathy, recognizing the emotional weight carried by public figures even when their private struggles remain unseen.
Ghana mourns with the family during this difficult moment, praying for strength and comfort for all affected by her passing.
