Following the recent statement from President John Dramani Mahama’ that the issue that boarders on the L GBTQ + is no more a matter of National interest, a section of Ghanains have raised a red flag asking the president to withdraw such assertion to end the case.
This is because many Ghananians believes that president John Dramani Mahama was given the chance to become the president of the Republic due to his campaign promise that he would discourage homosexuality practices in the country when elected as president.
However Ghanaians see current action of Mahama as a stab on the hence the ongoing criticisms.

It is against this background hence a group of Npp supporters in Kumasi led by Dr Keskine Osei Poku are throwing a challenge to the religious bodies and the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to challenge what they describe as double standards from President John Mahama regarding the LGBTQ+ legislation
Speaking at a press conference on last Wednesday Dr Keskine Owusu Poku an aspirant for the Ashanti Regional Communications Director position, characterized the President’s recent shift in stance as an insult to the Ghanaian electorate.
Dr. Poku expressed worry that the President who campaigned heavily on the promise of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation during the 2024 election cycle, now suggests the issue is no more a national priority.
For Dr Poku the issue is both intriguing and startling
He contended that after campaigning for the passage of legislation to outlaw. the LGBTQ+ practices in this country President John Mahama is now telling Ghanaians that the matter is not a priority for his governmen
Dr. Poku urged the institutions of public conscience specifically the religious organizations and CSOs to intervene.
He indicated that the silence from these influential bodies would undermine the ability of the public to hold duty bearers accountable for their campaign promises.
While the Npp group criticized the administration’s current posture Dr. Poku commended the Catholic Bishops Conference for its persistence in demanding government to fulfill its legislative obligations.
The group specifically called upon the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Councils (GPCC) the various Muslim Missions, Civil Society Organisations and others to lead a crusade against President Mahama to do the needful.
On his part another member of the group HeLawyer Kingsley Nana Bonsu Kyeretwie, Vice Chairperson of the Manhyia South NPP and an aspiring Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary provided a legal perspective on the controversy.
He argued that the President is constitutionally bound to protect the nation’s social fabrics.
He said under the Directive Principles of State Policy in the 1992 Constitution the government is mandated to safeguard the cultural and customary values of the Ghanaian people.
He added that Under Chapter Six of the 1992 Constitution, the government is enjoined to protect the cultural values of Ghanaians and enact laws that shield the 9th?
Lawyer Kyerretwie observed that President Mahama has no excuse; he must fulfill the promise he made during the 2024 campaign to use his parliamentary majority to pass this law.
