Prevail on Quarry firms in Ashanti to help maintain roads in the communities they operate – businessman’s humble appeal to Asantehene.
A Kumasi based businessman, Alhaji Abubakari Musa who is the Managing Director of Basfam Co Ltd in Kumasi has disclosed that unless Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II quickly intervene to ensure that companies that have been operating quarry businesses partly use their incomes to support and maintain the roads within the communities in which they operate, many roads in the region would remain unmotorable to the disadvantage of the people.
Speaking to the correspondent in an interview, Alhaji Abubakari expressed regret that there many quarry firms in the region, which operate in the various communities, their existence hardly benefits the communities.
He said almost all the roads within the communities where the quarry firms operate are in deplorable state making vehicular movement to become difficult.
Alhaji Abubakari Who also doubles as the chairman of the Moslems Executive Foundation (MEF) a pro-Moslem movement outfit in Kumasi was not comfortable on how the quarry firms have been badly treating people of whose lands they operate and make several millions of cedis on daily basis.
He cited for instance that a town like Obuasi is facing the same challenges though huge volumes of gold are always extracted from their lands on daily basis.
These actions are unacceptable, he pointed out, adding that it is due to this reason, hence l am passionately appealing to Asantehene to intervene in the matter to ensure that justices are done to the communities the quarry firms have been neglecting them in terms of development projects in their communities.
Alhaji Abubakari also took the opportunity to appeal to the various MMDAs to be proactive and collaborate with the quarry firms within their areas to show fairness to the communities in which they operate.
