Residents of the Kwabre East Municipality in the Ashanti Region have thrown their weight behind the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joseph Amankwaa Nuredeen following an aggressive demolition exercise that aimed at reclaiming public spaces to enhance security across the district.
The operation which has been the subject of intense public discourse has received overwhelming support from the majority of the citizens.
The residents indicate that the removal of the unauthorized structures is a strategic move that has curtailed the activities of criminal elements who over the years have turned these shacks into their hideouts.
Restoring Peace and Security:
Prior to the exercise, local neighborhoods were grappling with a spike in criminal activities including armed robbery and drug abuse.
According to residents the unauthorized wooden and metal structures scattered across the various vantage points in the municipality served as an operational bases for these miscreants.
Kofi Oppong a resident of Mamponteng noted that the atmosphere in the community has sjgnificantly improved since the demolition exercise took off.
Oppong indicated that the illegal structures are the safe havens for criminals, adding that now that they have been cleared peace and security wold return to the streets
At Fawoade a town near Mamponteng a concerned citizen Yaw Preko commended the Assembly for clearing the structures that illegally sited on the waterways.
The residents believe that this proactive measures will ensure the free flow of water during the rainy season to effectively mitigate the risk of flood disasters that plague certain parts of the Municipality in the past.
Public Call for Consistency:
The feedback from the community has been vocally positive.
Sammy Mensah a mobile phone repairer at Adwumaim expressed his strong support for the initiative and urged the Assembly to intensify the exercise.
for the benefit of the municipality as a whole.
Despite minor resistance from a few individuals whose illegal building structures were affected, the majority of the public urged Hon. Joseph Amankwaa Nuredeen to remain steadfast.
Bright Oppong of Kenyase advised the Mce to treat the criticisms of those who oppose to the exercise with contempt since God protects those who have good intentions for their people and country..
