The queenmother of the Bodaa Traditional Area in the Jaaman South District of the Bono Region, Nana Ama Benewaa Akwaamu has stressed the need for the youth to stay away from drug abuse and other antisocial vices that have tendencies to endanger lives.
The call was made during the Bodaa Munufie Yam Festival which was held under the theme: “Celebrating Our Heritage, Building Our Future.”
The august function attracted high profile personalities including chiefs, queenmothers , politicians and people from all walk of life who thronged in to witness the the occasion.
Speaking at the festival, Nana Ama Benewaa Akwaamu expressed her disappointment about the growing trend in which drug abuse have been overtaking the lives of the youth who are the future leaders of the country.
She noted that the practice of drug abuse is a dangerous move that can have serious health problems for those who fall victims to it
As young boy or girl your focus should be on your future prospects and not drug abuse, the queenmother advised.
She encouraged the youth to channel their energies into productive activities such as education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, sports and skills training for their own benefits.
Nana Ama Benewaa Akwaamu also called on parents, guardians, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to intensify education and guidance for the young people to understand better the dangers that associated with drug abuse and the need to shun it.
She urged the youth to make responsible choices and avoid associating themselves with bad friends whose focus are centred on antisocial vices that brings them no profits.
