The passionate appeal was made by Rev. Armstrong David, the founder and leader of the Mo Mary Fellowship in Kumasi.

Speaking on the moral decline within the modern church, Rev. David lamented that the sacred Word of God has been reduced to a common commodity, with unqualified individuals easily parading themselves as having a divine calls from God whilst they know from their hearts that they are representatives of Satan

According to him, this lack of oversight has allowed charlatans to infiltrate the church and preside over antisocial vices and engage in outright criminal activities to the contrary to the word of God

The clergyman indicated that these actions are not only dragging the image of the priesthood into the mud but also contributing to the moral and social decay in the society.

The Shield of “Freedom of Worship:
Addressing the defense mechanisms often employed by these fraudulent religious leaders, Rev. David noted that they frequently hide behind the constitutional right to “freedom of worship” to evade accountability and state regulations.

However, the Kumasi based minister insisted that freedom of worship is not absolute but have limits when it threatens public order, morality and the well being of citizens.

He further pointed out that they scripture itself prepares the church for this challenge, noting that the Bible explicitly warns of the rise of false prophets in the end times.

Therefore, the church must not fold its arms and watch helplessly whilst the fakes decide to manipulate the word of God for game and dirty wealth.

A Call for Regulatory Action:
As a prominent body representing the Christian faith in Ghana, the Christian Council has been urged to assert its authority to establish an internal mechanisms to identify, expose and flush out the religious “quacks.

He noted that by taking a proactive stance as a regulatory guide, the Christian Council of Ghana can help curb the rising trend of antisocial vices that trend to blackmail the Christianity.

The measures Rev Armstrong said would also protect vulnerable citizens from exploitation, and restore the sanctity and respect that the Christian ministry once commanded in the country.
