Benkumhene of Asempanaye Cited in Active Illegal Mining Activities To Destroy Communities.

Information reaches this website from Asempanaye in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality in the Ashanti region indicates that the Benkumhene of of the town, Nana Kwabena Asare in collaboration with some youth have been involving in an active galamsey operations, thereby having negative impact on the residents.

According to sources close to the town apart from the destruction of farmlands and polluting river bodies at Asempanaye. the Benkumhene and his group are said to have penetrated the town on galamsey missions.

At the town, one could easily see how these galamseyer have been digging deep holes in some parts of the town with the aim at extracting gold.

On the contrary the activities have affected many buildings but the Benkumhene who is expected to know better to stop the activities are solidly behind these illegal miners who vow to teach the residents some bitter lessons if anyone dare to stop them.

According to an opinion leader of the town, Mr David Nuamah the case has been reported to the police but nothing fruitful has emerged.

The police only comes here and goes back without any arrest or action but now we are fed up and intend to swing into action through demonstrations to ensure our freedom, Nuamah told the correspondent.

He said very soon the world will hear from them in a different way, hence because they don’t want to take the laws into their own hands are humbly appealing to the occupant of the Golden Stool , Asantenhene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II the police administration and all stakeholders to intervene in the issue for the sake of peace and stability in the area.

We are more than ready to confront Benkumhene and his group for a real showdown, if our rights are continued to be abused, David Nuamah concluded.
