DR OWUSU AFRIYIE AKOTO ON NOV.4 NPP’ FLAGBEARERSHIP RACE
PRESS STATEMENT
I have been humbled by the decision of the super delegates to select me as one of the 5 candidates to contest for the flag bearership race on 4th November 2023.
The 4th November election is not a make or break issue for the Party. It is to elect one of us to bear the flag of our noble Party going forward to the Presidential elections on 7th December 2024.
It offers an opportunity for all of us to unite behind one person to lead us to “break the 8” and not to break the Party. In the last two years or so I have been meeting party delegates to sell to them my vision for the Party and the nation.
I pray that the 210, 000 plus delegates will choose me as their leader in whose hands the dear Party of ours will flourish to victory come December 2024. My commitment to the development of this Party is well known to all.
Initiating the formation of the Overseas branches, serving in opposition leadership in Parliament and in Government as a Cabinet Minister, are some of the strategic roles I have played in the development of this Party and nation. I am relying on these contributions to convince the delegates to vote massively for me come November 4th.
I belong to the generation of party members who trace their roots right to the very birth of our tradition – the United Party (UP) tradition. But the pride of this heritage does not bestow any sense of entitlement in the current leadership race.
Rather it has engendered a real life-long commitment to work tirelessly to realise the vision of the founding fathers on whose shoulders our tradition and the spirit of the Party stand.
In this respect, let me state here categorically, that I am prepared to work equally hard for whosoever the delegates choose to lead this Party on 4th November 2023. We must “break the eight” to retain the NPP in power.
I call on members of my campaign teams in all Electoral areas and Constituencies to work tirelessly to ensure that all delegates vote massively for me (number #3 on the Ballot paper) to lead the charge for an emphatic NPP victory in the December 2024 Presidential elections
I know the battle ahead is not going to be easy but with determination and blessings from the Almighty victory will be ours.
14th September 2023.
