Free Education Has Come To Create Enemies Between Teachers And Students – Kumasi Businessman Insists

By King Amoah, Our Chief Correspondent.

The Managing Director of Basfam Co. Ltd in Kumasi , Alhaji Musa Abubakar has allegedly linked the indiscipline, choas and confusions that have been bedeviling some students in the Senior High School to the introduction of the free education policy.

He said that with the introduction of the free education policy, students have rather become masters whilst the masters in turn have been downgraded to become as students.

Speaking to the Correspondent in an interview Alhaji Musa Abubakar reiterated that the free education policy which allegedly disallow tutors to punish or discipline offending students has given powers to the students to take the laws into their own hands.

A teacher will make an attempt to punish an indiscipline student, it will end that teacher up to be criticized by the officials of the Ministry of Education or parents or simply be transferred.

Alhaji Abubakar was apparently referring to the recent incident at the Asokore Technical & Vocational Training lnstitute where number of students were arrested over alleged rioting and demonstration, causing damages to the school’s properties running into several thousands of cedis.

The businessman who also doubles as the Chairman of the Moslems Executives Foundation (MEF) in Kumasi indicated that the bad conduct shown by the students will continue to unfold in the country.

This is because the attitude had already dominated the students at the national level.

The love of teachers in the students in terms of learning and discipline have been waxed cold and that teachers today prefer to work at anyhow and collect their monthly salaries, thus leaving the destiny of the students into their own hands.

According to him if the indiscipline in schools are not quickly addressed, he said by the next five years, the country would be worse off because such future leaders would take up positions in the Armed Forces, police, other security agencies, banks among other state institutions to run down the country.

Alhaji Abubakar conceded the fact that though before the free education concept was not introduced there was indiscipline in schools, however the current rate in which the menace is rising poses a threat to the country’s future.

In order to reverse the trend the businessman advised the government to carry out research into the past records of education and go back with the old system where discipline and rule of law were prevalent in those days.

I believe that this is the only best option that could transform our education with regards to the introduction of the free education policy, the Chairman of the Moslems Executives Foundation, Alhaji Abubakar concluded.
