Due to new law imposed on them to buy and sell in the market starting from 4:00 pm on Thursday evening to Saturday which they disagreed with, new laws or penalties were also added which doesn’t go down well for them.
They demonstrated and vow not to return to the Jama market again due to the imposed laws which negotiations failed to over turn in several attempt.
The P.R.O Mr Moses Adzani speaking to the media noted that the market has been recently migrated to Bongase lakeside in the Bono region which in some details found has brought an attack on people trying to visit the market in Bongase from Jama community and it environment got blocked with road block and security men allegedly threatening them to move after they Jama leadership sends an apology and they gave them two weeks to respond to their apology.
The P.R.O said some engine boats were attacked when coming to market on market days at Bongase on the river with guns and security men by Jama leadership order.
He said that they’ve stopped after they couldn’t stop the people nor force them to land at Jama over bank.
Leading to that Bui Dam Fishermen Association chairman’s engine boat and 5 outboard motors were forcefully captured at Jama over bank on 8th, January 2024 without known reasons while the two weeks to respond to the Jama leadership is not up to date yet.

The engine boat is currently left on dry land according to the P.R.O. Experts have disclosed that the engine boat has spoilt due to long stay on the dry and constructing new boat is the only option for now.

Some people also alleged that some Jama community members keeps telling them that they the Ewe people ( fishermen ) don’t have any place to go so they must comply with any law imposed on them which triggered the people to move away.
Moreover, Bongase leadership has embrace the controversial market switch which has migrated to their territory with joy and has dedicated a big portion of land for construction of new market within some shortest possible time with Bui power authority including the Banda district and MP Hon Ahmed Ibrahim of Banda constituency.
