Kumasi International Airport to be named after Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh I

Kumasi International Airport to be named after Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh I.

Even though we advocated for the Airport to be named after the Warrior Queen, Nana Yaa Asantewaa.

But nananom in their wisdom have chosen to rename the Kumasi Airport after Asantehene Prempeh I.

It must be noted that, Otumfuo Prempeh I is the first Asantehene to cross the ocean.

He is the Asante King who embarked on a deadly voyage of being exiled to Seychelles Island to save his kingdom from further destruction.

This year 2024 is exactly 100 years since Nana Prempeh I returned home from Seychelles Island.

It’s therefore not surprising that the International Airport will be named after the King who first embarked on an international journey.
