Increase the cocoa prices to Gh¢3,000 if you want us to satisfy – farmers to Akuffo Addo.
Section of farmers within the Amansie West district of the Ashanti region, have urged Prez Akuffo Addo and other stakeholders to as a matter urgency add more increment to the cocoa prices before they can be fully satisfied.
According to the farmers who spoke to the correspondent at Manso Akropong, though the increment was good, they see it as not enough.
Reacting to the increment of the cocoa prices from Gh¢1,308 to Gh¢2,070 per bag, the farmers said the new price compared to expenditure on their production, makes it nothing but a loss.
A two time best farmer in the Ashanti region and a known cocoa chief, Mr. Kassim Ibrahim speaking to the media said, he’s almost given up on farming due to the kind of ill-treatment subsequent governments give to farmers.
Blaming the government over its failure to fight illegal mining activities, the chief farmer said, most of these galamseyers take people’s land by compulsion, whenever they fail to accept their juicy offers.
He said, he may now have no other option than to sell his cocoa farm to miners should the government continuously fail to show commitment in its fight against the activities of illegal mining.
