Environmental pollution: Popular Bishop charges EPA to bite hard on offenders.

In his quest to ensure that environmental pollutants are brought to book , a Winneba in the Central region based renowned man of God, Bishop Dr George Nii Aryeh has stressed the need for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to apply the environmental rules on the culprits who may be caught in the act of trespassing the laws.

Speaking to the correspondent in an exclusive telephone interview from Winneba, the clergyman who is the founder and leader of Rivers of Life Ministry International sited in Winneba expressed his displeasure about the rate in which some Ghanaians have been treating the country’s environment.

Bishop Aryeh cited cases like unlawful public noise making through public address systems by churches, evangelists, herbalists among others as some of the environmental offenses that need attention.

The Bishop indicated that the laws that govern the environment are though in existence, its applications are not well enforced, thereby giving people the opportunities to treat the environment on the way they like.

Defining environment as a broad topic, the clergy was critical to the government on why drivers and road users only have been targeted as the sources of environmental pollutants who use their vehicles to promote smokes.

Drivers, he said stand the risk to be arrested, fined or prosecuted when caught in the act of causing or ‘blowing’ smoke through their vehicles, while wee smokers, butchers, charcoal producers and others who contribute as major environmental offenders are left unchecked.

It is time where the Environmental Protection Agency should rise up to their mandate and apply the laws in full terms for the benefit of country, the man of God pointed out.

Citing instance about the dangers that pose as a treat to environmental pollution, the outspoken man of God alleged that some noise making activities from some churches have been killing people especially pressure patients in communities, not forgetting the mistakes done by some officials who operate in the noise making communities.

According to Bishop Dr Aryeh God created man to live in a sound and conducive atmosphere of which reason the advanced countries have been taking environmental issues as their priority and punish citizens who undermines environmental regulations in the society.

The Bishop asserted that the development of the country and good health of the citizenry depend on how we would keep our environment, and therefore passionately appealed to the relevant authorities to enforce the environmental laws to help curb environmental offenses in the country.
