The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Operation Calm Life and National Security have seized some expired products that were exposed to school children and the public at Kwabenya in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency.
The Ga East Municipal NADMO Director, Mr Seth Kofi Osei Kissi said large quantities of assorted drinks that have expired since July 10th 2022 were openly displayed on the road side for school children and others buy.
The team also discovered other expired products that raised serious public concerns and as a result, the team ordered for the closure of the affected shops.
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, the NADMO boss Mr Kissi expressed worry about the rising trend in which traders resort to sell expired products for public consumption.
Mr Kissi related that expired products pose a health hazards for the public, hence the need for all to join forces with the stakeholders to clampdown the offenders who sells expired goods for public consumption.
On the occasion the NADMO boss advised shop keepers and owners to avoid mixing new products with the expired ones and sell them to the public, since the act constitute to an offence that attracts punishment.
Mr Kissi admonished the traders to return expired products to the manufacturers for new products if they detect that the goods they bought contain some expired products.
Alternatively he advised the consumers too to be on alert and study the type of products they buy from the shops on whether they are expired or not before they leave shops.
Winding up, Mr Seth Kissi advised the general public to give tip off to NADMO, police, health outfits, environmentalists among others for action when they come across any expired products from any source across the country.
