On Friday August 30, 2024, Apostle James Kwasi Oppong, founder and leader of the Risen People’s Party, made headlines as he officially picked up a nomination form from the Electoral Commission, signaling his intention to contest the upcoming presidential elections on December 7, 2024, as an independent candidate.

His decision comes at a pivotal moment, as the nation grapples with economic challenges and calls for transformative leadership.

Apostle Oppong explained that his choice to run as an independent candidate stems from the current status of his party, which is operating under a provisional certificate issued by the Electoral Commission.

This limitation prompted him to take a bold step forward, believing that an independent campaign would give him a better opportunity to connect with voters directly and address the pressing issues facing Ghanaians.

During the announcement of his candidacy, the Apostle expressed his confidence in his mission, stating that his presence in the presidential race has been divinely ordained.

He articulated that he has received a revelation from God, who has called him to “salvage Ghanaians from economic oppression and hardships.”

At the forefront of his platform are significant economic reforms, particularly focusing on the education sector, which he believes is crucial for the nation’s future growth.

He also proposed the ambitious idea of changing the Ghanaian cedi to pounds sterling.

Apostle Oppong urged Ghanaians to rally behind him and support his candidacy, emphasizing that he is uniquely positioned to champion the common cause of the people. “I stand ready to lead this nation towards better economic policies and ensure that every Ghanaian has access to opportunities for growth and success,” he declared emphatically.

As the campaign season heats up, the Apostle called for peace and unity to ensure free and fair polls devoid of fratricidal violence.
