A political student from Legion University, who prefers to remain incognito, has voiced out concerns regarding the implications of electing politicians who display a lack of discipline, sensibility, and accountability.
Their insights are a clarion call for voters to exercise discernment in their choices, emphasizing that the future of the nation hangs in the balance.
The student in an interview ,argues that the careless statements and actions of some political candidates are not just mere political blunders; they represent a broader trend of irresponsibility that, if allowed to proliferate, could have dire consequences for the nation’s governance and integrity.
“When leaders take the stage to campaign, their words wield tremendous power.
Unfortunately, some candidates seem more inclined to use this power recklessly, prioritizing attention over responsibility,” the student point out.
In the context of electoral campaigns, he said it is imperative for the electorate to recognize the destructive potential of selecting leaders who lack the discipline to engage in constructive discourse.
According to the student, “the fabric of our society is woven from trust, respect, and accountability, adding ,politicians whose campaigns are riddled with sensationalism and disrespect can fracture this fabric, making it difficult for them to govern effectively should they win.”
The exhortation to vote out such politicians is rooted in a desire for improved governance.
Candidates should be held to a standard that reflects the values and aspirations of the citizenry.
Moreover, the student’s advice comes at a time when Ghanaians are increasingly frustrated with the political elite.
Many citizens have expressed disillusionment with leaders whose campaigns are marred by personal attacks, misinformation, and empty promises rather than substantive dialogue about pressing issues such as education, healthcare, and economic development.
“We need leaders who are willing to tackle the issues head-on, not those who will resort to petty talk,” the student emphasizes.
Hunting that “the consequences of electing the wrong individuals can last for generations.”
The student stated that as the countdown to December 7 continues, Ghanaian voters must prioritize prudence and responsibility in their electoral decision-making.
It is essential to critically evaluate candidates on the basis of their track records, their proposed policies, and, perhaps most importantly, their conduct during the campaign period. It is a reflection of what they will carry into power—their attitude, temperament, and character.
