In a bold move to address the alarming trend of school absenteeism in the Awimasu District, the Assemblyman for Kwabodi No.1, Hon. Prince Boadi, popularly known as “Kofi K,” has initiated a new educational policy that mandates attendance in schools, imposing severe consequences on both parents and children who fail to comply.
During an emergency meeting held on September 20, 2024, with parents, chiefs, queen mothers, opinion leaders, teachers, and police representatives, Kofi K expressed his deep concern over the rising number of children in his Electoral area who are refusing to attend school.
He attributed this issue largely to the negligence of parents and guardians, emphasizing that a collective effort is needed to reverse this troubling trend.
As part of this initiative, Kofi K articulated his vision of prioritizing education as a fundamental right for every child in his electoral area.
According to him, education is not only a means of personal development but also a vital pillar for the future of the community.
“Children are our future leaders,” he stated emphatically.
“Therefore, our educational priority cannot be taken for granted.”
To enforce the new policy, the Assemblyman announced a spot fine of GHC 500.00 (approximately $85) for parents whose children are found to be violating the compulsory education rule.
Additionally, affected children will face legal repercussions, as they will be required to report to the police station to explain their nonattendance.
Kofi K believes that such measures will compel parents to take their children’s education seriously and ensure that every child is given the opportunity to learn and grow.
This educational initiative is part of a broader agenda by Kofi K to uplift the Kwabodi No.1 community.
Since taking office, he has made significant strides in infrastructural improvements, including the installation of modern boreholes that aim to provide clean water access to residents.
He is also in the process of connecting the area to the MTN power network, which promises to enhance the local economy and improve living standards.
