Former President John Mahama has announced his intention, and filed his nomination to run for the highest office in the land once more in the December 7 polls in Ghana.
Outlining a vision for a united and prosperous Ghana. In a recent address, he painted a picture of a nation grappling with the effects of bad governance, a sentiment echoed by the diverse voices he has encountered across the country.
Mahama, in his campaign across Ghana, has spoken with people from all walks of life: professionals, chiefs, market women, farmers, miners, and youth, among others. He has listened to their stories of hardship, their struggles against the harsh socio-economic conditions brought on by the ruling government. Despite these difficulties, he has been deeply moved by their resilience and unwavering hope for a better future.
“I have admired their exceptional resilience in such difficulties,” he remarked,” and had the opportunity to learn of their dreams and aspirations for the Ghana we want.”
These aspirations, Mahama believes, are rooted in the vision of Ghana’s forefathers – a nation built on principles of freedom, justice, and equal opportunity for all. “This is the Ghana we all want and must work to build together,” he declared.
He expressed his belief that the people of Ghana have the human and natural resources to achieve this vision, but warned that the country is currently “headed in the wrong direction.” His bid for leadership is driven by an “urgency” to rescue Ghana from this path and steer it towards a brighter future.
Mahama approaches this quest with humility, introspection, and integrity, qualities he believes are crucial in an experienced leader. He calls for a renewed sense of unity and purpose, a collective effort to build the Ghana we all want, a nation where the dreams and aspirations of its people can be realised.
