Cleaning up the payroll, president seeks data on last-minute Npp’s appointment

The Office of the President has issued a directive to all heads of government institutions, requesting information on last-minute employees added to the payroll by the outgoing NPP government.

This move aims to purge the government payroll of unethical appointments made in bad faith to overburden the public purse.

The directive, signed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, emphasizes the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in government payroll management processes.

Institutions are required to provide details on all persons added to the payroll on or after December 7th, 2024, including full name, designation, employee identification number, date of appointment, and date added to payroll.

The submission deadline for this information is January 31, 2025. Institutions facing challenges or requiring clarification are encouraged to reach out promptly. The directive has been copied to key stakeholders, including the Vice President and the Secretary to the President, highlighting the significance of this initiative in addressing payroll integrity.

The government’s effort to verify and ensure the accuracy of payroll records, particularly those added during the John Mahama administration, is crucial in maintaining transparency and accountability.

Failure to meet the submission deadline may attract scrutiny, as the government seeks to streamline payroll systems and eliminate discrepancies.
