Information reaches this website indicates that tensions are high in the South Tongu Municipal in the Volta Region and predictions are that unless the Ndc National Executives put up a swift intervention to settle scores, peace cannot prevail within the Municipality.
The unfolding drama stemed from the selection of the candidates who fits to lead the people and the sudden withdrawal from the race, one Romeo Hademe described as the peoples choice.
Whilst accusations of bribery and underhandedness allegations are leveled against some local party executives, the teaming supporters within the Municipality are calling for fairness and transparency before they possibly raise the red flag against any act of imposing any unknown candidate on them.
The controversy surrounding the removal of Romeo Hademe from the shortlist for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position in South Tongu has sparked outrage among Assembly Members, traditional leaders, and particularly party loyalists.
Insiders alleged that the Volta Regional NDC Chairman, Hon. Mawutor Agbavitor and former Regional Secretary Hon. James Gunu are the brain behind the Hademe’s removal after receiving a huge bribe from their preferred candidate who according to them is unknown to the residents.
Hademe’s achievements in the constituency that have been attracting calls for the MCE’S contest are numerous and impressive. He has been a unifying force, working tirelessly to unite party members and even reaching out to opposition party youths to campaign for John Mahama and the NDC.
His community development efforts include lobbying for Pencils of Promise to build seven schools in the district, benefiting several communities.
In times of disaster, Hademe was said to have shown remarkable leadership, lobbying for essential supplies such as 300 bags of 50KG rice and over 1000 bags of sachet water to support affected communities during the spillage that hit the Southern Volta basin.
Economically, Hademe is pushing for a Tiles factory from Italy to be established in the district, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. Additionally, he is advocating for an emergency unit block to be built at the District Hospital using the annual returns of SOCCU, where he serves as chairman of the board.
The people of South Tongu expect Hademe to be among the shortlisted candidates due to his exceptional contributions to the NDC party in their constituency.
His dedication, hard work, and commitment to the party’s victory, which led to the highest percentage of 93.33% in the country, are well-known.
