Ashanti region: Police discover guns and ammunitions in an abandoned vehicle

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launche6 nod an investigation after recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition from an abandoned vehicle, the security agency said in a statement.

The discovery was made on Sunday (17 August), when a patrol team from Kuntanase spotted a white Toyota Sienta suspiciously parked by the roadside between Aputuoagya and Bekwai.

Officers said two men were standing beside the vehicle, allegedly smoking what was suspected to be a narcotic drug. The men fled into nearby bushes when they saw the police, evading arrest.

A search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-47 rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, two fully loaded AK-47 magazines, and several packets of ammunition.

Other items found included Wellington boots, cowrie shells, sandals, a smartphone, and identity documents.

Action
The vehicle has been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station while the items are being held as exhibits to aid investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command urged the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“The command remains resolute in preventing violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents,” a statement said.
