Affirmative Action Bill: Minister Sets Record Straight On Tokenism Fear.

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, has categorically dispelled rumors and misconceptions surrounding the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024, which aim to promote gender equality and empowerment.

At a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, August 9, Minister Newman expressed her heartfelt appreciation to members of Parliament and individuals who have supported the Bill’s passage. She acknowledged the exhaustion and dedication that went into ensuring the Bill’s success.

Minister Dakoa Newman addressed concerns that the Bill would lead to tokenism, where women are appointed to positions of power without merit. She emphatically stated that this is a misconception, emphasizing that Ghana has a vast pool of highly educated, skilled, and capable women who can excel in roles currently dominated by men in both private and public sectors.

The Minister urged Ghanaians to reject such unfounded allegations and instead rally behind the Bill, which awaits the President’s signature. She emphasized that the Affirmative Action Equity Bill 2024 is a crucial step towards bridging the gender gap and promoting inclusivity, and that it is essential to support and celebrate this milestone achievement.
