Akuffo Addo and his “Akyim Mafias” plotted for the Removal of Osei Kyei Mensah – Npp lawmaker alleges.

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, and the outgoing Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, of conspiring to remove Osei Kyei- Mensah- Bonsu from his position as Majority Leader.

Dr. Afriyie made the allegations in a message shared on an NPP Members of Parliament WhatsApp group, intercepted by Newspalacegh.Com, stating that he viewed Mr. Kyei- Mensah- Bonsu’s removal as a “coup d’état.” He expressed his belief that the situation needed correction.

The lawmaker further criticized the NPP leadership for allegedly prioritizing the interests of the Greater Accra Region and other regions over those of the Ashanti Region, which rather gives the NPP a massive glory in terms of votes.

He pointed to a recent National Council meeting as evidence, claiming that the Ashanti Region’s contributions were dismissed. He also alleged that key leadership positions were disproportionately allocated to representatives from the Greater Accra Region.

Specifically, Dr. Afriyie cited the selection of the 2nd Deputy Whip, where he claimed that a representative from the Greater Accra Region was chosen over Mavis Nkansah Boadu, who he believed was the rightful candidate from the Ashanti Region. He expressed frustration over what he described as a “sellout” and a “needless trade-off,” warning of significant repercussions for the party.

Dr. Afriyie further expressed concerns over what he perceives as hostility from President Akufo-Addo and a group he termed “Akyem Mafias” toward the Ashanti Region, labeling it as “total suppression.” He called upon the Ashanti caucus to actively pursue greater opportunities and not accept mediocrity, emphasizing the need for strategic efforts to improve development and business prospects.

The accusations have ignited a debate within the NPP and are expected to escalate tensions within the party ranks.
