Akuffo Addo’s silence amounts to betrayal: Prominent political analyst alleges

A prominent Kumasi-based political analyst, Dr. Alfred Amoako has launched a stinging critique against former President Nana Akufo-Addo accusing him of a deliberate and continuous attempt to quit in the face of challenges confronting the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr. Amoako contends that Akufo-Addo’s current posture amounts to a “betrayal” of the party and its loyal supporters.

Speaking passionately on the matter Dr. Amoako expressed profound disappointment in the former president citing his perceived inaction regarding a range of issues affecting NPP members.

These challenges according to the analyst, include political pressure, frustrations, arrests, and seizures of properties of party executives by other political opponents across the country.

Dr. Amoako emphasized that such alleged conduct is unbecoming of a former President who was brought to power by a political party and its dedicated followers.

He believes that Akufo-Addo’s current silence does not reflect the expected behaviour of a leader who once held the highest office under the party’s banner.

He specifically pointed to Akufo-Addo’s silence on the recent chaotic scenes witnessed during the Ablekuma North constituency by-election, an incident that has drawn widespread public condemnation and prompted an investigation by the Inspector General of Police.

The former President Akuffo Addo continues to be silent as if he is not in the country, Dr. Amoako lamented.

Adding that even if he’s outside the country his voice can be heard to encourage and boost the morals of party members in Ghana.

In a direct challenge, Dr. Amoako questioned Akufo-Addo’s intentions. If after losing the elections Akuffo Addo has resigned, he should make his intentions known to the party, he asserted.

Addressing the former president directly he declared, Dear former President Akuffo Addo your actions smack of betraying the NPP and its members so I challenge you to come forward and make your position known to the party.

Dr. Amoako contrasted Akufo-Addo’s alleged silence with the proactive efforts of other prominent NPP figures.

Today, he noted, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Kennedy Agyepong, and the likes are fighting for the survival and fostering unity and effective reorganization of the party.

In a stark contrast he claimed, Akufo-Addo has turned back on the numerous challenges confronting the NPP and its members.

  • Concluding his remarks Dr. Amoako asserted that Akufo-Addo “needs to break his silence before any further action from the party, underscoring the urgency for the former leader to clarify his stance and reassure the NPP grassroots.
