Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen falls for late president JJ Rawlings policies to develop Volta Region.

On Monday, July 17, 2023, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a prospective New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, pledged to fill the late President Jerry John Rawlings’ position as the Volta region’s godfather.

Speaking to delegates from various constituencies in Aflao, Ketu South, Dzodze, North Tongu, and Sogakope, Central Tongu, Kyerematen urged the locals to back him in the upcoming NPP primaries in November 2023 and the ensuing 2024 elections in order to succeed in his bid to become the president of the country.

He sought to carry on the late President Rawlings’ positive legacy to the region’s growth.

In his speech to the delegates in Sogakope, Kyerematen, sometimes known as Alan Cash, emphasized that he shared some of the charisma of the late President Rawlings.

In order for him to manage the country and ensure fair resource distribution to the Volta area, he urged Voltarians to show him the same love they shown to the late President.

Kyerematen praised the positive response from the audience while also acknowledging the widespread belief that the Volta area has historically been hostile for the NPP.

Although he was confident in the support of the region, he voiced his faith that this political environment will change once he became the NPP’s leader.

Kyerematen urged the delegates to choose a leader who had been tried, tested, and had widespread appeal as the previous Minister for Trade and Industry.

He emphasized the need of choosing a candidate who could not only serve as the party’s flagbearer but also ensure success in the national elections, enabling the NPP to “break the eight,” referring to the custom of the ruling parties switching every eight years between the NPP and NDC.

Mr. Kyerematen said that he was the only NPP candidate who could defeat the NDC forcefully, especially in their stronghold of the Volta region.

As the flagbearer, he assured the delegates that he would implement a plan to pay the party officials a salary each month in order to better their circumstances as well as theirs.

Mr. John Peter Amewu, the Minister of Railways and the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, supported Kyerematen’s campaign and asked delegates to cast their votes for Kyerematen with a clear majority.

Amewu emphasized that while openly supporting Kyerematen as a cabinet minister, he had not received any criticism from the President, and so he urged the delegates to put aside their anxieties and reject any intimidation attempts.

Several NPP Regional executives, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar, the former Minister for Zongo Development, Mr. Yaw Boabeng Asamoah, and others accompanied Kyerematen on his tour.
