NPP Ashanti Regional Communications Officer under fire over ‘you need kola nut to buy land in Tamale’ comments
Thehl Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has come under intense criticism following a viral statement in which he allegedly claimed that land in Tamale can be acquired with a kola nut instead of money.
The controversial comment, which many have described as “offensive and stereotypical,” was captured and shared by Radio Tamale on its official Facebook page on October 26, 2025.
Yandoh is alleged to have said, “Land in Tamale can’t cost $250,000. You don’t use money to buy land there; all you need is a kola nut.”
The statement has sparked outrage and widespread discussion on social media platforms, with many users describing it as derogatory and disrespectful.
Several Facebook users took to the comments section to express disappointment and anger over the remarks, accusing the NPP executive of promoting stereotypes about people from the northern part of the country.
One user wrote, “How did he manage to become a communications officer? This is how they see northerners. Yet, bring kola and take land, Mr man.”
Another comment read, “I’m not surprised. These people said we still drink water with cows. The only places they know in Ghana are Accra and Kumasi.”
“Please, can someone assist me with the requirements to become an NPP executive? I want to check something because eiiiii.”
Another user added,“A plot of land in some parts of Tamale can buy ten plots at your home, wai.”
