The Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Ashanti NPP Criticizes Mahama’s Administration, Citing Fuel and Electricity Price Hikes
Kumasi, Ghana – The Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by President John Dramani Mahama, accusing them of lacking policy direction. His remarks come in response to recent increases in electricity and fuel prices, which he believes indicate a rapidly deteriorating economic situation in Ghana just five months into Mahama’s presidency.
Yandoh expressed disbelief that these price increases have occurred despite Mahama’s claims of a stabilized economy due to the appreciation of the dollar against the cedi. He questioned the rationale behind the rising costs of essential utilities, particularly electricity provided by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), if the economic picture painted by the President is accurate.
“Mahama claims that with the appreciation of the dollar, Ghana’s economy is stabilized. If his claims are genuine, why have the fuel and power increases affected the utility services, especially the Electricity Company Ltd of Ghana?” Yandoh asked.
The NPP communication director went on to accuse the NDC of misleading the public during the election campaign to secure victory, only to implement policies that are now stifling the economy. He argued that the current government’s actions demonstrate a clear lack of policy direction and questioned the long-term viability of such policies for the average Ghanaian.
“It is obvious that the NDC used false campaign promises to win the election, only to come and stifle the economy,” Yandoh stated. “They have lost policy direction because all what the government is doing constitutes bad policy and how can Ghanaians live if such Mahama policy persists for even just one year?”
He further reminded the public of President Mahama’s promises of improved living conditions, including “bread and butter” and sound economic policies. However, Yandoh contends that just five months into Mahama’s tenure, life has become increasingly unbearable for Ghanaians.
In conclusion, Mr. Yandoh appealed to the NDC government and President Mahama to reconsider their current economic policies and implement measures that would alleviate the burden on Ghanaians, ultimately fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign. He urged the government to “reverse their policies so that life becomes bearable for Ghanaians as promised.” (NPP), Mr. Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by President John Dramani Mahama, accusing them of lacking policy direction.
