The Assinman Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Assin Fosu, Central Region, has dismissed 23 students for poor academic performance, highlighting the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards in healthcare education.
According to Principal Ophelia Nkrumah Johannes, the dismissed students were given multiple chances to improve their standards but failed to meet the academic requirements despite repeated attempts.
Mrs. Johannes stressed the importance of academic excellence in nursing due to the life-or-death nature of the profession.
She noted, “In nursing, a single mistake can cost an innocent life.
We cannot afford to compromise on quality.”
She further advised parents to support their children’s interests and strengths rather than imposing career paths, particularly in demanding fields like nursing.
This approach, she explained, would help ensure that students are motivated and dedicated to their studies.
The college remains committed to training skilled and competent healthcare professionals, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
