Breaking News: Dr Omane Boama confirmed death in a military aircraft crash

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Mutala Mohammed, have been confirmed dead following a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

The Chief of Staff confirmed their deaths late Wednesday, August 6, after hours of uncertainty surrounding the tragic incident that occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

The helicopter, a Z-9 military aircraft, reportedly went off radar shortly after takeoff on Wednesday morning. It was en route to Obuasi when communication with the crew was lost. According to the Ghana Armed Forces, efforts to re-establish contact with the aircraft were unsuccessful. Initial reports indicated that some of the passengers on board were burnt beyond recognition after the crash, prompting a rapid emergency response.

Authorities revealed that the helicopter was carrying eight individuals—three crew members and five passengers—though the full list of names has not yet been released. The Ghana Armed Forces, in a brief statement, said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, as the nation mourns the loss of two high-profile figures.
