In a landmark decision aimed at upholding the truth and protecting the integrity of congregational affairs, the Kumasi High Court on Thursday December 18 2025 delivered a decisive ruling to restrain Pastor Akwasi Addai Macaiah who is infamously known as Sexy Pastor from using presidential title to manage the Association of the 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies in Kumasi.
The court’s verdict underscored the principle that truth cannot be concealed regardless of the influence or power wielded by individuals.
The dramatic courtroom proceedings saw Justice Dr. Poku Adusei J.A., sitting as an Additional High Court Judge who declared null and void Pastor Akwasi Addai’s previous attempts to assume the presidency following the demise of the Association’s former President and Founder, Elder Enoch Ofori $nr.
The judge’s ruling cited Akwasi Addai’s involvement in conducting unlawful elections as the basis for his disqualification
The Court noted that through Pastor Akwasi Addai’s alleged unlawful election in his own favor, he declared himself as a substantial president of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies to the contrary to the process of appointing President of the church in the absence of the church founder.
The Honourable also observed that Pastor Akwasi Addai’s conduct constitutes to imposition on the congregation.
The long standing dispute within the church saw Akwasi Addai the defendant, challenged by an elder of the Assembly Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and two other plaintiffs.
During the court process Akwasi Addai’s inability to answer over 90 percent of the questions posed by Justice Dr. Poku Adusei reportedly stunned the courtroom audience highlighting a lack of preparedness and perhaps an absence of legitimate claims.
To ensure transparency and fairness Justice Dr. Poku Adusei issued clear directives.
Pastor Akwasi Addai has been explicitly restrained from holding himself out as President, Acting President or any form of leader within the Association of the 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies.
In a move to facilitate the smooth running of the church during this transitional period, the court appointed two church members Elder Yaw Fosuhene from the plaintiff’s side and Elder Akwasi Acheamong from the defendant’s side as temporary managers.
They are tasked with overseeing church affairs for a period of six months during which lawful elections will be conducted under the supervision of the Ashanti Regional Electoral Commission.
The Electoral Commission has been granted the full mandate to liaise with the church to ensure that proper, free and fair elections are conducted.
Furthermore the Commission will determine the costs and expenditures associated with the electoral process with the court ordering that these expenses to be shared equally 50 percent each – between the two factions, represented by Akwasi Addai and Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr.
The court also stipulated that immediately following the elections the victorious president should be sworn in to assume office without delay.
Hailing the verdict as a peaceful resolution that focused on fostering unity and peace among church members Justice Dr. Poku Adusei issued a stern warning.
He stated unequivocally that the court would not hesitate to deal with any individual, church member or group who would act to the contrary to the laws of the land,
He assured that justice would be dispensed without fear or favour.
This ruling comes in the wake of a previous incident where Akwasi Addai was reported to have snatched a church member’s wife from him
The matter finally reached at the Manhyia Palace where Akwasi Addai who already married to three wives was found guilty and ordered to pay GHc 2,500.00 as compensation the husband Mr. Adjei.
The court’s current decision further solidifies the pursuit of accountability and adherence to the established norms, even within religious organizations.
