Residents of Gyinyase in Kumasi were plunged into mourning on Monday, February 12, 2025, following a devastating fire that claimed the lives of a well-known nurse, Madam Linda Agyeman, and her three young children.
The horrific incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning, sending shockwaves through the community. According to a news bulletin aired on Hello FM, the tragedy began to unfold around 3:30 am when neighbors were roused by frantic cries for help emanating from the Agyeman residence.
Witnesses reported arriving at the scene to discover thick smoke billowing from the home. The source of the fire appeared to be a gas cooker in the kitchen. Neighbors desperately attempted to force entry into the kitchen in an effort to reach the trapped family, but their initial attempts were unsuccessful.
Driven by the harrowing screams of Madam Agyeman and her children, community members rallied, arming themselves with pestles and buckets of water to breach the kitchen door. However, the intense flames and suffocating smoke proved insurmountable, preventing them from reaching the family trapped inside.
Tragically, despite the community’s valiant efforts, they were unable to rescue the nurse and her children. By the time the fire had extinguished itself, the four occupants of the three-bedroom apartment had succumbed to the flames. The sight that met the eyes of the first responders was one of utter devastation.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the fire. The bodies of Madam Agyeman and her children have been transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and further examination.
