Breakthrough as police arrest 5 armed robbers who stole Ghc 110,000 in Accra in a broad day light

According to the report by ghpage today Sunday August 3, 2025, in Accra, Ghana, the Police Service has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime, following the arrest of five suspected armed robbers linked to a daring daylight robbery in Accra, during which an estimated GH¢110,000 was stolen.

According to an official statement from the Police Public Affairs Directorate, the suspects—whose names have not yet been released—were arrested in a coordinated operation across multiple locations in the Greater Accra Region.

The arrest comes barely a week after a gang of armed men reportedly attacked and robbed a private businessman shortly after he withdrew cash from a bank near Lapaz.

Eyewitnesses described the robbery as highly coordinated and executed with military-like precision. The robbers, wielding pistols and machetes, intercepted the businessman’s vehicle, fired warning shots into the air, and made away with a bag containing the large sum. The incident sparked widespread fear and prompted intensified security patrols in the capital.

Police intelligence, supported by surveillance footage and community tip-offs, led to the identification and tracking of the suspects.

“This is a significant success in our ongoing clampdown on armed robbery syndicates,” said ACP Kwesi Ofori, the Director of Police Public Affairs.

“The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. We are confident that they belong to a wider network operating in the region.”

During the arrest, law enforcement officials reportedly recovered part of the stolen money, as well as firearms, motorcycles, and communication devices believed to have been used in the robbery.

Forensic teams are currently analyzing the items to gather additional evidence.

The Ghana Police Service has commended members of the public who came forward with information that aided the arrests, urging continued collaboration to ensure the country’s safety.

“This is proof that when citizens and law enforcement work together, crime can be tackled effectively,” ACP Ofori noted.

Residents in the affected areas have expressed relief following news of the arrests.

“We’ve been living in fear for weeks now. This gives us some hope that the streets can be safe again,” said Lydia Mensah, a shop owner near the crime scene.

Meanwhile, police say further investigations are underway, and more arrests could follow. The suspects are expected to be formally charged and arraigned before court in the coming days.
