Bridget Otto’s early life and educational journey

Otoo hails from Sekondi in Ghana’s Western Region, where she was born on December 31, 1983, to Francis Otoo and Agnes Arthur. She is one of seven siblings and spent her formative years in the vibrant twin city of Sekondi–Takoradi, a key industrial and commercial centre.

She began her education at Aggrey Memorial Basic School in Sekondi, where her aptitude for leadership and communication began to emerge. Bridget proceeded to Bompeh Senior High Technical School in Takoradi, where she distinguished herself academically and served as Girls’ Prefect. Her assertive and confident leadership earned her the nickname “The Headmistress” among her peers.

Pursuing her passion for media and communication, she enrolled at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Studies. She later advanced her academic credentials with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ghana, Legon.

While still pursuing her education, Bridget ventured into the communications field, serving in the Public Relations Department of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority in Takoradi during her national service. She also began voice-over work, lending her voice to advertisements for notable brands such as Tigo, Barclays, Unilever, and Ecobank.

Her professional media career officially took off in 2008 with roles behind the scenes at Good News FM and Sky TV, while continuing voice-over assignments. Despite her academic background, Bridget later admitted that her early days in journalism were shaped more by practical experience than classroom learning. She humorously noted that after graduating from GIJ, she “couldn’t even write a single report” and had to learn scripting and presenting on the job.

Bridget Otoo’s early life story is one marked by resilience, ambition, and a drive for self-improvement—qualities that have been central to her rise as a respected figure in Ghana’s media landscape.
