Bryan Acheampong intensifies “attack” on Dr Mahamoud Bawumia amidst mocks

Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
Dr Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has once again attacked Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his aka 9 p3 campaign.

The Abetifi MP reminded Dr Bawumia that in every election, all candidates start from zero per cent.

According to Dr Bryan Acheampong, former President Akufo-Addo, who secured 49 per cent in an election, started from zero per cent in the next election.

Bryan Acheampong criticised Dr. Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 elections and urged delegates to consider choosing a new candidate if the party hopes to secure victory in the next election.

In a viral video, Dr Bryan Acheampong recounted that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia promised the NPP Zongo community votes, but the NPP in the 2024 election list included every Zongo except one.

He further detailed that Dr Bawumia, as the NPP presidential candidate, did not win a single constituency in the seven regions of this country.

Speaking in the viral video, Dr Bryan Acheampong stated, “Look at the results: in seven regions of this country, our presidential candidate did not win a single constituency, not one. I am talking about the presidential.

In the Western Region, he won one; the whole of Western Region, he won one with less than 500 votes. In the Central region, he won two constituencies.

Almighty Greater Accra, he won only two constituencies, and in all of the North, we lost. His promise of winning the Zongo vote for us, we lost every Zongo community except Effutu Zongo. Think about it”.

He further reminded Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that in every election, we start from zero and not the percentage secured in the past election.

Dr Bryan Acheampong added, “Every Zongo in this country we lost except Effutu Zongo, if we talk about it and educate the delegates, what do we do here, aka Nine p3”.

The NDC had 56 per cent. Do you think that they are not a political party? Every election, we start from zero. President Akufo-Addo got 49 per cent, he didn’t say aka 1 per cent.

In the next election, we started from ground zero, and we moved our seat to 169, and he won. The next election, we don’t start from 41 per cent; we need to bring a candidate that can feed into the NPP winning formula and win the election for us”, he detailed.

Also, the camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has fired shots at the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his idea that 41 per cent of the votes he got in the 2024 elections is awaiting him in the 2028 elections.

According to Kwasi Kwarteng Esq, spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign, those remarks by Dr Bawumia are warped logic.

He emphasised that the idea of some 41 per cent of votes in waiting is flawed and illogical.

Kwasi Kwarteng noted that with that logic, the National Democratic Congress will also claim they have 56 per cent of the votes in waiting.

Ken Agyapong’s campaign spokesperson in a post on X shared, “The idea of some 41 per cent votes ‘in waiting’ is not only flawed but illogical.

By this same reasoning, the NDC could also claim 56 per cent ‘in waiting’”.

His reaction comes after Dr Bawumia called on the NPP delegates to vote for him to build on the 42% of valid votes cast for him and the NPP in the 2024 elections.

Speaking to thousands of NPP supporters after submitting his nomination forms for the NPP’s presidential primaries on August 28, 2025, Dr Bawumia stated, “I owe this party a duty, that if we are to win 2028, we ought not to start afresh from zero. Instead, we ought to build on the nearly 42% of valid votes and work to cross the 50% mark in the next election”.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee has confirmed that five aspirants have completed and submitted their nomination forms.

The five include,

Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
Also, the NPP will be holding their internal elections on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
