Residents of Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region have expressed gratitude to Osofo mining company in the area for its efforts in rehabilitation, particularly impressed on reclaimed land.
Speaking to the Philanthropist, and the CEO of Osofo Mining, Osofo Kwabena revealed that several hectares of mined-out areas have been reclaimed in various communities.
According to Osofo Kwabena leaving uncovered pits behind, the miners continue to pose a threat to lives in mining communities, with many people falling into the pits and dying. Clearly, the abandoned pits have become death traps in some communities.
Mining operations in Ghana, whether large or small, must have a reclamation plan for their operation. A reclamation bond is a surety bond that checks the performance of a mining activity or operation after the activity is completed.
He urged all Mining companies and Operators to do reclamation to avoid disaster in the country.
