Cocoa price has though been increased, purchasing officers have no funds to pay farmers.
Incredible information trickling down from the cocoa community areas in the country indicates that cocoa farmers are finding it hard to make ends meet, following the recent increase of cocoa price by the government.
According to the farmers the raising of the cocoa price is though a welcome news, what is currently making them to have a sleeplessness is the fact that they cannot sell their cocoa beans at the cocoa purchasing centers.
According to cross section of farmers who spoke to our regional correspondents, whenever they landed their cocoa beans at the cocoa depot centers for sale, all what the clerks tell them are that there are no funds to meet the new price of cocoa.
Some farmers alleged that out of want, they have to accept the old price to enable them cater for their families.
Some others indicated that have to go for hard loans with high interest rates.
To some of the farmers they don’t understand the situation and questioned the credibility on why the government is not ready to make funds ready, but preferred to announce the increase of cocoa price.
We are sorry for Akuffo Addo’s administration, because what is happening to the cocoa farmers now suggests a punishment on the farmers.
Meanwhile cocoa purchasing officers we spoke to on the matter confirmed the allegations and pleaded with the cocoa farmers to bear with the government since funds would be made available soon to solve their financial challenges.
