The Director of Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana, Mr. Daniel Mbabugri Akgri, has called on the government to as a matter of national interest intensifies innovative measures that would not only ensure a clean environment but also find a lasting solutions to the fight against sanitation and hygiene in the country.
Speaking during the second edition of the organisation’s Sanitation Excellence Awards, Mr Akgri emphasized tha sanitation has not been significantly improving even though efforts were made by the government and other organisations, the sector has witnessed, for making insignificant change which speaks volumes that more efforts are needed to improve the Sanitation and Hygiene system.
He noted that many organisations including the government, have used local and international methodologies in their quest to salvage the sanitation sector but to no avail
With regards to these failed approaches, Damak Sanitation Health Watch Ghana in collaboration with the International Direct Project (IDP) from Switzerland adopted a new innovative technology using “Digital Address system codes” to determine the contributions/performance of the communities/Electoral Areas.
Additionally, the organization’s media reporters also help in monitoring the performance of the selected areas in the blind eye of Assembly Members and other selected institutions towards their contributions and impact in the society..
Mr. Daniel Mbabugri explained further that, the friendly nature of the system helps determine the percentage score marks of every Electoral Area from 1-100 (%). This, he said, ensures transparency and guinueity in selecting winners not based on merit, but on their performance and contributions sanitation and hygienic promotion in the society.
In 2023, he said 5 assembly members and 5 other organisations were given awards to that effect. However, the number has been increased from 10 to 16 who received awards following their contributions toward promoting a clean and safe environment in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing awardees, the Director of International Direct Project (IDP), Pierre P. Petitjean said, Sanitation and environment area keys to human development and that when the earth is polluted as a result of environmental pollution, it may have a dare consequences on the lives of everybody including our children and the next generation to come.
Adding that the negative impact of environmental pollution is real when immediate measures to restore it failed.
He however tasks everyone to rally behind Damak Sanitation Health Watch so that together, they can promote a better environment for the future generations.
