Discourage illegal mining activities spearheaded by Ndc bigwigs in the Atiwa East District – Ndc supporters urge President Mahama

By King Amoah

A groundswell of disappointment and urgent appeal has emerged from a section of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atiwa East District in the Eastern region.

The party activists are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and discourage the rising trend in which some faceless big guns in the party have been operating illegal mining in the district using some frontliners to achieve their agenda.

The alleged galamsey Ndc officials stands accused of active involvement in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey a destructive practice that has ravaged the district’s natural resources.

According to the aggrieved NDC supporters those Ndc bigshots have allegedly prioritized personal financial gains through galamsey over their duties as as party members.

They have been hiring people to work on their behalf notably among those who have been hired include two citizens Ntim Jnr and Victor Ntim described as frontliners to manage the operations.

The allegations against the party faithful are extensive and deeply concerning.

Sources within the district indicate that the unnamed party officials (names withheld for security reasons) have through their alleged galamsey activities led to the destruction of vast track of lands in Asaman Tanfo.

Furthermore, critical water bodies have been irrevocably damaged and disturbing incursions have been made into parts of the Atiwa Forest Reserves.

Farmers whose properties have been reportedly destroyed by these operations have according to the allegations been denied any form of compensation.

Mr. Prince Mensah a self confessed staunch member of the NDC in the district has been at the forefront of these accusations.

Mensah alleged that the accused Ndc men are currently deploying eight powerful excavators in their illegal mining operations within the district.

To save the reputation of our party from the scourge of illegal mining we confronted these illegal Ndc miners on several occasions to halt these activities but to no avail. Mr. Mensah stated.

He expressed frustration that instead of addressing the concerns these faceless miners allegedly turned to point fingers at him by falsely accusing him of being the main source of the illegal mining in the area .

Allegation Mr. Mensah termed as a blatant lie.

Mensah
further revealed that numerous police reports have been filed against these people regarding the destructive activities yet no action has been taken.

He highlighted a concerning double standard claiming that while the alleged galamsey Ndc officials readily arrests and impose fines on other laborers involved in galamsey they conveniently keeps blind to the activities of thier own labourers who allegedly operate on thier behalf.

Mr. Mensah said these Ndc mining operatives have been allegedly boasting of thier untouchable status as they assert that thier government is in power.

The NDC supporters are now making a direct appeal to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to launch a thorough investigation into these serious claims.

We want His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to investigate this case and if they are found guilty must be punished.

They have also plegged their full cooperation and readiness to assist in any probe emphasizing the visibility of the alleged operations.

The excavators and workers they have been engaged can be visibly seen at the galamsey site when one desires to visit the site at Asaman Tanfo Mr. Mensah assured.

We are readily available to present evidence including video footage, Mensah concluded.
