Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu Vows To Take Action Against University officials over unauthorized fees for scholarship students

Education Minister Mr. Haruna Iddrisu has issued a strong warning to university authorities as he threatens to take action against officials who would be found charging unauthorized fees, particularly to the first year students.

The Minister declared his commitment to root out corruption within the nation’s tertiary education sector.

Speaking with determination Mr. Iddrisu stated that he will leave no stone unturned until the fight against corrupt University officials are realized.

This action comes after information reaching his outfit indicates that some officials in the government universities have been allegedly charging unapproved school fees on the new entrants.

These first year students according to President John Dramani Mahama’s new education policy they are covered under the National Scholarship Scheme designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.

The Minister described the actions of these officials as unfortunate and an attempt to make the government unpopular.

He emphasized that the primary motive behind the establishment of the scholarship scheme for the new university entrants is precisely to relieve parents from their financial burdens.

Mr. Iddrisu expressed his bewilderment that he truly don’t understand why some officials should go contrary against the directives and charge fees that have not been authorised by the government.

According to a Kumasi based privately owned radio station Agyenkwa FM’s morning radio bulletin on Wednesday November 4 monitored by the correspondent the Minister affirmed that his outfit is ready to pursue any alleged criminal official to serve as a deterrent to others to maintain the good name of the government.

The move he said is to ensure government’s commitment to maintain transparency, accountability and proper implementation of its educational policies.
