Environment: Is KMA responsible for the stinking conditions of Kajetia?.
Kumasi which was one time known as the Garden City of West Africa because of it’s natural beauty coupled with clean environment is currently struggling to maintain it’s past status, reports King Amoah.
Today the city, especially the business enclave within the Central market poses a lot of questions on its environmental nature on as to who manages the affairs.
The area known as a busy trading centre and focal point for travellers is unbelievably turning into a refuse site.
Filth has overtaken almost all the area making people to find movement uncomfortable as a result of the over blowing stinking mess.
Apart from seeing choked gutters with carcass, traders notably vegetable, fish and meat sellers also nakedly expose their goods in the scorching sun amidst allowing flies to hover over them as if they don’t know the negative impact buyers who eat such goods would be affected.
Despite these dangerous environmental practices that are ongoing in the Central Business Enclave in Kumasi , the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly collects daily taxes running into several billions of cedis.
From the probe, KMA has not bent to put up any corrective measures to solve any canker confronting traders who pay taxes.
The city guards of of the Assembly are only experts in arresting drivers and extort monies from them, thereby leaving the real environmental offenders like water sachet sellers among others who pollute the system and go scot free.
We are about to enter into rainy season but look forward to witness what the rains would do to disturb the traders.
The rain disaster has been causing traders at Kajetia to loose their properties for years, but KMA hardly finds solutions to it
The question is are we residents in Kumasi have a Mayor and if so what are his core functions in the city ?
Or perhaps was that Mayor appointed through political influence to champion a casuse for a particular political party’s in Kumasi?
I strongly believes that government is wasting national resources on some people who are entrusted into public offices but virtually doing nothing to benefit the masses in return of their fat salaries and remuneration.
It is time we should stop dirty politics on vital issues for the benefit of the country
More updates soon.
