Environmental issues are my major focus for my electoral area – West Darkoman Assemblyman.
The Assemblyman for West Darkoman Electoral Area in the Greater Accra Region, Alhaji Bunyamuni Saluhu Maikankan has observed that the development of every community depends on the good health of its citizens, hence he always remains focused to address the environmental challenges in his electoral area.
At a one day free eye screening exercise which he and his Unit Committee members in collaboration with the St Thomas Eye Hospital located at Mataheko in Accra organized, Alhaji Maikankan told journalists that the current program added up to three, free eye screened exercises he has so far organized since his election as the Assemblyman for the area.
According to him eye is light of everyone, and that o without good sight man’s survival would be at risk, hence besides his numerous policies for the electoral area, he has also taken vision challenges as one of his topmost priorities.
In all, the program which took place on Monday February 26, 2024 at the Darkoman quarters near the Mosque attracted about 70 participants who were freely screened after which glasses and other relevant eye care products were prescribed for them.
St.Thomas Eye Hospital also took the opportunity to aadvise patients whose cases demands surgeries to refer their problems to the hospital ( St.Thomas Eye Hospital) for free medical attention as part of the hospital’s social obligations to support the society.
That was not all. the West Darkuman Assemblyman Alhaji Bunyaminu Saluhu Maikankan said as a concerned citizen, before his tenure of office as the Assemblyman for the electoral area, he managed through some stakeholders to insure for free over 1000 residents within the electoral area.
He stressed that plans are far advanced for him and his hard working Unit Committees Members to extend the National Health Insurance Policy to number of citizens in the electoral area on annual basis for free.
On clean up exercise programs, Hon. Maikankan said he and his team have gained confidence in the electorates because of the manner they have been using to tackle the refuse among other garbages issues in the area.
This because periodic clean up exercise are mounted in the electoral area to ensure cleanliness at all times, since their views cleanliness is next to Godliness.
We also normally embark on environmental awareness campaign to explain to the people the need on why one should keep clean environment for his own safety, Maikankan hinted.
Alhaji Maikankan further noted that education is a tool of national development and a source of improving living standards, therefore to realize such dream for the youth in his community, he and his Unit Committee members have planned to offer scholarship schemes to qualified students to study from basic schools to university levels respectively.
Already five students have been awarded scholarship to study at Gontafari International School at Tuba suburb of Accra, the Assemblyman pointed out.
Alhaji Maikankan thanked the electorates for the confidence that they have reposted in him and his committee members, thus encouraging them to work hard and accordingly assured of their resolve to do more to transform the electoral area.
