Former US military office holder calls for the arrest and, punishment of galamsey chiefs.
The Environmental Protection Agency, Police, Military and other security agencies in the country have been advised to show seriousness in the fight against the destruction of water. Very Rev. J.B Danquah who is a former chaplain for the United States Military Hospital and currently a Senior Citizen, has disclosed.
According to the statesman who is much worried about the spate at which people have been destroying water bodies with impunity, he can’t fathom why people will do these evil to the detriment of the laws in the country.
He said, Ghana cannot afford to import water, hence his call for the security agencies and other stakeholders to show seriousness in the fight against the destructions of the country’s water bodies.
In a telephone interview with the Modernghana.com reporter King Amoah, the clergy also sent a strong warning to chiefs who allow for galamsey activities in their communities, adding that there was the need to severely punish such chiefs who only consider their selfish interest and do harm to the country.
He also encouraged church leaders and Imams to involve themselves in the ongoing canker by sensitising church members to spread the news against the activities of illegal miners in the country.
The country is at cross roads with regards to the destruction of our water bodies and environment, therefore government need to rise up and discourage the canker before the society sinks into oblivion, the man of God pointed out
