Janice Ohemaa Amoah, known to her fans as Afrobeat sensation “Queen Jern,” has surprised many by signaling a shift in focus from her burgeoning music career to her nursing profession.
The newly qualified Registered General Nurse, who completed her studies in 2024 and is preparing for her National Service assignment in 2025, recently revealed her reasoning for prioritizing her healthcare career.
Queen Jern, while studying at the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Sunyani in the Bono Region, managed to cultivate a significant following with her Afrobeat and Hip-hop tracks. Her passion for music led her to dedicate her spare time to singing and performing, building a reputation that extended across the country and online.
Speaking exclusively with connectghananews.com on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, after performing at a church program at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Queen Jern explained the decision behind her relative silence in the music scene.
She recalled releasing several popular albums, including “Flawless,” “Announced,” and “Do the Do,” during her time in nursing school.
These albums Queen Jern also affectionately called by her fans as “Nurse Rapper” said catapulted her into the spotlight, earning her interviews with prominent media outlets such as Adom Fm, Focus FM, Osikani FM Techiman and Solid FM in Kumasi.
Addressing her concerned fanbase, Queen Jern clarified that while she hasn’t abandoned music entirely, her focus is now primarily on preparing for her upcoming National Service assignment. She emphasized the long-term stability offered by a nursing career. “Nursing career can sustain my life to my old age to retirement,” she stated.
In contrast, she highlighted the challenges inherent in pursuing a full-time music career, citing issues like producer conflicts and the difficulties of securing the necessary capital to maintain a successful and consistent presence in the industry.
She suggested that making ill-informed choices about one’s future could have detrimental effects in later life.
Queen Jern also acknowledged that the current landscape differs from previous eras, making it more challenging to seamlessly combine nursing and music.
She cited example like the renowned gospel artist Diana Antwi Hamilton, who successfully balanced both professions, because conditions in her were not similar to these days.
However, she offered a glimmer of hope to her fans, promising a final decision regarding her music career after completing her National Service in December 2026.
“But in any case I assure my fan to still have hope in me because all are not lost in them since my final decision would be made known after serving my one year National Service assignment,” she concluded.
But for now, it seems Queen Jern is focused on dedicating herself to her nursing career, leaving fans wondering if and when the Afrobeat star will return to the stage. Only time will tell if she’ll find a way to balance her passion for music with the demands of her chosen profession.
