Very Rev. Anthony Kwarteng, General Overseer of the Christ Power Miracle Mission Church located at Dome Kwabenya in the Greater Accra region, has ignited controversy by demanding a public apology from pastors who supported the now-stalled National Cathedral Project.
In an exclusive interview, Rev. Kwarteng asserted that these pastors, who backed former President Akufo-Addo’s initiative, should see themselves as cursed and accountable before God for their involvement in what he deems a deceptive scheme.
Rev. Kwarteng, who identifies as an “African Prophet” with lineage tracing back to figures like Moses and Jacob, believes the National Cathedral project was conceived with malicious intent, despite being presented as divinely inspired. He stated the uncompleted project has become nothing more than an “uncompleted shrine” adding that the pastors’ involvement suggests a deliberate plan to loot state funds under the guise of religious devotion.
Labeling these supporting clerics as “white-collar pastors” who use “fluent and big English language” to defraud, Rev. Kwarteng questioned how much former President Akufo-Addo contributed personally to the project. He highlighted the president’s promise to build a cathedral if elected, and questioned the source of funding, suggesting that state funds were improperly diverted under the pretext of the project.
“If you claim to be a genuine pastor working for God and for the past 8 years failed to complete a House of God what can stop God from not cursing you,” stated Rev. Kwarteng, connecting the project’s stalled progress to a potential divine curse. He further emphasized the cloud of allegations surrounding the project which are to be investigated by the current government, stating that this raises doubt as to whether those in charge acted sincerely in the eyes of God.
In his concluding remarks, Rev. Kwarteng described the National Cathedral Project as a “Mafia” operation intended to siphon public funds, citing the project’s current state as evidence of its illegitimate nature.
He expressed support for President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to investigating the expenditure of funds allocated for the project.
Rev. Kwarteng’s strong pronouncements have added another layer to the already contentious National Cathedral debate. His challenge to the pastors involved, coupled with his call for a public apology and his assertion of divine retribution, is likely to stir further discussion within religious circles and the broader Ghanaian public.
