GOVERNMENT IS ANXIOUS TO EMPLOY CRITICAL THINKERS TO HELP BOOST COLLEGE OF EDUCATION – Education Minister
The Minister for Education, Hon Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has disclosed that, government is anxiously preparing to employ critical thinkers to help boost the Colleges of Education across the country.
He said this forms part of the Ministry’s policies to meet the standards of the Training Colleges four year bachelor of Education Programme to ensure that critical thinkers are produced to sustain the education system.
He said if such measures are implemented would also enhance academic excellence and resources to make Colleges of Education to reach a maximum height.
The Minister was addressing the Wesley College of Education First Batch of Bachelor of Education Programme which has the theme: “100 years of leadership and nation building: Equipping the Teacher to meet the demands of the 21st Century, the WESCO factor”.
Hon Yaw Adutwum was of the view that, the 21st Century education in Ghana can be packaged well with academicians who are critical thinkers, now that the new education curriculum is stuffed with academic disciplines such as creativity and innovation, digital literacy, problem solving, personal development and leadership among others.
He said the perseverance in Ghana’s education this time are the ability to pursue a problem out there in the society until a satisfying solution is found to fix that community and the nation at large.
He said commitment of achieving excellence in the work of critical thinking through the curriculum would persist in doing the best in any field of endeavour that would come to the floor for the 21st century teacher to fix flexibility in ideas, commitment to achieving excellence, truth, integrity, respect, process skills among others.
Commenting on the 14 Congregation, the Minister for Education reminded the graduates to prepare to teach well in the Junior High School education to meet the new curriculum aims and objectives.
He said Wesley College has done well to produce 1,733 of which 906 are males and 797 are females respectively.
The Acting Principal of the Wesley College of Education, Mr Kennedy Ameyaw Baah disclosed that the 14th Congregation was also coincided with the commissioning of Projects for the College.
He said the COVID 19 pandemic together with the Russian-Ukranian war had negative impact on the students studies and learning, making the organization of the First Batch of Bachelor Graduates students to become difficult to get to the ladder.
He said the authorities of the college envisage to see as scheduled within their four years of their education calendar.
He announced of 13 visually impaired students who were part of the congregation.
He further pointed out the new auditorium have been installed with C.C T.V cameras, stressing that the complex lecture hall as well as infrastructural amenities of the college are needed.
The Acting Principal took advantage of the occasion to appealed to G-Tech,Get-Fund as well as Ghana Education Service (GES) to come to the aid of the college.
