Highlights of Ndc sectoral press briefing on its 2024manifesto on security.

 

WHAT THE NEXT NDC/MAHAMA GOVERNMENT WILL DO TO IMPROVE SECURITY AND PUBLIC SAFETY’S

The next NDC/Mahama government will:

1. Develop a comprehensive security and safety programmeto support the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Policy.

2. Recruit 25,000 security officers to add to the current strength to anchor the 24-hour economy policy.

3. Ensure merit-based, transparent and decentralized recruitments and promotions in all security agencies in line with our HR GAP analysis.

4. Expand the implementation of community-based crime prevention programmes focusing on high-crime areas by enhancing police presence and patrols in neighbourhoodsand public spaces.

5. Enhance border security and cooperation with international partners to combat terrorism financing and foreign terrorist fighters.

6. Introduce a nationwide community police programme.

7. Invest in ICT infrastructure, training, modern equipment, mobility and other logistics to support intelligence gathering and enhance national safety.

8. Control the Proliferation of small arms and light weapons.

WHAT THE NEXT NDC/MAHAMA GOVERNMENT WILL DO FOR SECURITY PERSONNEL:

1) Clear the backlog of promotions and ensure timely promotions based on meritocracy and transparency.

2) Prioritise the welfare of serving and retired personnel of our security agencies.

3) Harmonize and address disparities in salaries, remunerations and other conditions of service across all security agencies.

4) Review and enforce the medical package for serving and retired personnel and their families.

5) Review compensation packages for personnel who lose their lives or get injured in the line of duty.

6. Revamp the police public order management school in Pwalugu, roll out a transparent police education and scholarship scheme and introduce state of the art technology for police operations.

7. Change the name of the Ghana Prison Service to Ghana Correctional Service and mordern the prisons system to make it more humane.

8. Create well-equipped technical and vocational departments in all major prisons.

9. Establish the NADMO Fund as enshrined in the NADMO Act, 2016 (Act 927).

10. Facilitate the construction of a customs hospital for serving and retired officers of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Ghana Armed Forces
We will:

A. Construct housing units and refurbish dilapidated and abandoned housing units across the country.

B. Establish Armed Forces Home Ownership Schemes for all personnel and officers.

C. Review and adjust salaries and allowances of troops and Defence civilian staff to align with changing realities.

D. Complete and equip the Kumasi Military Hospital (Afari) in the Central Command.

E. Initiate the construction of military hospitals at Ho, Bolgatanga and Sefwi Wiawso.

F. Establish Veterans’ Referral Departments in Military Hospitals across the country.

G. Ensure transparency in the selection process for peace support operations. .
