I am disappointed for our inability to elect a presiding Member – Dormaa Central MCE
The Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly has failed to elect a presiding member for the 2nd time after the inauguration of the elected assembly members to officially commence the assembly business.
During the processes on Monday, Feb 12, 2024, at the Forecourt of the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly Block, the 44 Assembly Members and Government appointees failed to give the needed 2/3 votes to confirm one of the two presiding member contestants on two voting rounds.
The contestants were Hon. Nicholas Ntow who pulled 26 votes in the first round and Hon. Ata Twum gunning 16 with 2 rejected ballots. The second round Had Hon. Nicholas Ntow pulling 28 votes and Hon. Ata Twum 16 with no rejected ballots.
Speaking to Hon. Drissa Ouatara, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) described it as unfortunate for their inability to elect a presiding member and that without a presiding member, the Assembly may find it difficult to undertake some important businesses hence they soon have to build consensus to ensure the election of a presiding member to steer the affairs of the Assembly.
He stressed that he is highly disappointed in their inability to elect a presiding member so they will work hand in hand among themselves to ensure that unity and cohesion prevail to facilitate the election of a presiding for effective assembly business
Meanwhile some assembly Members who failed to elect a presiding member also spoke with Newsmen and expressed their frustrations. They noted that though their first attempt to choose the PM wasn’t a successful one but with a better campaign message from the contestants, the second attempt may seem possible with others Suspecting partisan politics among the members hence affecting the operation of the Assembly.
