I dare my Npp party, I will sell my seat if Bawumia is mistakenly elected as flagbearer – Jerry Ahmed

Jerry Ahmed, Deputy Minority Whip and Weija-Gbawe MP, has issued a strong ultimatum to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that he will resign and sell his parliamentary seat if Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is “mistakenly” elected as the party’s 2028 flagbearer.

In a fiery interview that quickly went viral, Ahmed criticized the party’s leadership, claiming Bawumia’s decisions have damaged the NPP’s reputation and weakened support at the grassroots level. He described Bawumia as unfit to lead the party into the next election.

“If Bawumia is mistakenly elected, I will resign, sell my seat, and join a new political party,” Ahmed declared. His remarks have sent shockwaves across the political scene, signaling internal tensions within the NPP.

Ahmed’s statement comes after a recent delegates conference where Bawumia secured over 77% endorsement from party members. Despite this support, Ahmed contends that the party is disregarding lessons from past mistakes and risks further electoral losses.

He also suggested he may join a new political movement, one that prioritizes ordinary Ghanaians and is less influenced by entrenched elites, though he did not reveal the party’s identity.

The proposal to sell his seat has sparked debate over legality and political ethics, with some critics accusing him of showmanship, while others view it as a principled stand against poor leadership.

As the NPP prepares for its flagbearer primaries, Ahmed’s warning intensifies internal debates, raising questions about party unity, leadership, and the direction of the NPP going forward.
