A prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central region Mr. David Emmanuel Afful has issued a stark warning to the party’s leadership insisting that should the NPP face another defeat in the 2028 general elections, the blame must be squarely laid at the feet of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
According to Mr. Afful an NPP stalwart,1 the alleged internal confusions and power struggle between factions loyal to Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Agyapong have been creating persistent tension within the party
A situation he fears could prove detrimental to their electoral prospects.
Afful posited that the ongoing internal strife, which he claims has been evident since 2024, has already inadvertently benefited the Ndc culminating in a situation that in his view, seemingly favoured John Dramani Mahama who is currently leading the country.
If the party desires power Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong should be banned Afful adamantly stated.
He reiterated that despite the fact that the Npp’s acknowledging that the NPP’s constitution grants every member the right to contest election this is a critical party issue where executives must exercise their power to intervene.
Taking into consideration that the actions of the supporters of the two political figures are tearing the party apart.
Mr. Afful’s comments were prompted by a recent incident where factions affiliated with Kennedy Agyapong allegedly leaked a telephone conference meeting involving Bawumia’s supporters.
He questioned whether such conduct could possibly foster the peace and unity necessary for electoral victory.
There is not a single day that passes when we don’t hear confusions among Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong’s factions, Afful lamented.
He expressed profound regret that instead of addressing these disruptive attitudes the NPP executives out of fear continue to keep mute whilst party structures continue to dwindle.
To salvage the party’s future, Afful proposed a radical solution: I suggest that Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong must be temporarily suspended from the flagbearership race until they get to understand that political insults and attacks cannot win power
But rather good manners that goes with good policies before they could be allowed to campaign.
He warned against complacency and asserted that If we decide to be pretenders and keep quiet as if nothing is happening because of their wealth, then we should forget about any future political victory.
Mr. Afful concluded by cautioning that while such dirty campaign tactics and disorganization continue to plague the NPP the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is observing keenly and arepoised to capitalize on their internal divisions to win the 2028 elections without toil.
